Today, the crew makes use of “A Handy Distraction” and the action gets started. I sketched out the next handful of strips and the violence sure ain’t ending any time soon.
I feel kinda silly about the Chuck Norris look alike last strip using the term “hoser.” I’ve tried to slip in a bunch apparent Canadian-isms, but the truth is, I just don’t know of anybody that’s actually used terms like “hoser,” “take off,” or “eh” since the mid eighties. I’m not sure what else Canadians are known for other than hockey, maple syrup, and being generally polite (which I guess is to say we don’t shoot each other quite as often).

The outlaw boys are gettin’ into a world of trouble in “Imperial Complications.” Strangely, most of ‘em don’t seem to care. Bonus points for whoever can translate the Ukrainian.

Here’s a little bit of Susan and the promise of some “Ensuin’ Violence.”
I did a bit better with Jamie as well. The mouth and eyes are closer to the real deal.
I may have written the script for Mosquito, but Chris Beyette took the Susan character away from me. Today’s comic is all him.

Today we encounter the outlaw gang in “Meet the Geeks.”
Back during last years’ Manitoba Comic Con, I sat with some guys who did a (cuently on hiatus) webcomic which was (by a miraculous coincidence) also called “Meet the Geeks.” They clearly gave me the idea of starting up the Mosquito strip.
Sorry today’s strip was so late. There’s something screwy with the site that still needs some more attention.

Our dashing heroes have “A Question of Authority” this week, that brings up a pressing concern of mine with Firefly/Serenity.
Why did Jayne take orders from Mal?
There were moments in the show where Baldwin’s performance suggested Jayne was actually scared of Mal’s temper (I can remember him taking an overly warry step back while Mal was letting the doctor have it for something like that). It would have been some cool to find out where that fear came from, but then “Ariel” happened and Jayne more or less curbed his mutinous ways. It was a little off putting to see Jayne regressed in the movie, especially when Mal was kind of a pussy when Jayne started acting up. Sure, the whole “do you want to run this ship/well… you can’t” thing was funny, but it just didn’t feel right. Jayne should have got his ass handed to him.

The plot thickens (albeit unoriginally) in “Muddier Waters.” In my defense, the Serenity RPG night where we played this scenario was way before the release of “Better Days.” I’m also pretty excited to introduce you to the outlaw in the background and his three cohorts.
As a side note for those who don’t know, “muddy waters” in Cree is “Winnipeg.” I thought everyone knew that.

Howdy All.
It occurs to me that some folks don’t know about the young adult modern fantasy books I’ve written. They’re pretty damn funny little yarns that I’m awful proud of, and once I get Magellan done, I’ll get to writing more. There’s pics of the books up there in the banner, but you can check out summaries, sample chapters, images and even video trailers for them HERE . They’re available at McNally Robinson and a good handful of Chapters stores across Canada, or there’s an Amazon link for them off the site.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go take a shower.

So here’s some “Creative Chaperoning” from Cal. Part of me wishes I’d had a daughter. I could have a ton of fun permanently scarring the psyches of young hopefuls come to meet the old man.
