post The Signal Podcast Interview

November 4th, 2008

Filed under: Mosquito, My Books, My Movies — Pinto @ 10:53 am

Stop by The Signal website and listen/download Episode #20 for an interview I did with Les and Wayne. It was a ton of fun and includes:

-mockery of missing Signal host Kari Haley

-praise/mockery of Signal pimp/cheerleader Kevin Bachelder

-me saying "absolutely" no less than five times (somebody give that guy a thesaurus for Christmas)

-an explanation as to why Whedon’s a jerk

-lots of tidbits about what I’ve been working on

-a great review of my currently favourite TV show, Pushing Daisies

-me being a TOTAL jerk, and forgetting to give a shout out to Curtis Wachs. Curt’s helped with EVERY aspect of the website and none of this (including the webcomic) would be possible without him. I’m awful sorry Curt. The next trip to Mongo’s is on me (you big, single bowl eating sissy).

Just goin’ through some old stuff in preparation for Manitoba’s Comic Con next month and found these tid-bits. Check out video trailers I did for my young adult fantasy books Ned Stapleton and the Wrath of the Death Gods and The Oldest Game of All.

Also, here’s a couple of interviews I did for TV and radio way back when.

While the books certainly took time away from the Magellan Affair, lately it’s been the other way around. Curse my life for its lack of balance!

In other news, what has two thumbs and turns 37 today?

Dis guy.

It’s the first day of Autumn, and the same birthday as Bilbo and Frodo… Hey, don’t you judge me! It’s on the first bloody page! Maybe that’s all I read… Nah, go ahead and judge. I’ve read ‘em a million times.

Hi-di-ho all.

It was kinda nice to be more or less removed from the ways of the world for a week or so, but some damn interesting stuff was afoot while I was gone.

I was a little late for work this morning as every pair of socks I own was knocked off by finally watching The Dark Knight on Saturday. I just can’t say enough about that flick. The out-fricking-standing, no CG cinematography was only outdone by the “almost every scene is the Pacino/DeNiro coffee shop from Heat” calibre of the script and acting. In a movie that should have been pure scene stealing Joker, EVERYONE got a chance to shine. Comic geek aside, this was a fantastic film. For the eight people left in the western world who have yet to see it, get up and go right now.

ComicCon sounded like it was a blast. I should really find the time to go one of these years.   I read this morning that Whedon is gonna host a contest for 3 minute Evil League of Evil applications (a la Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog). In the space of ten minutes I’ve come to terms that I’m a talentless hack whose only accomplishments have been on Joss Whedon’s coat-tails, wrote the three minute script, and planned the production all on the Canadian taxpayers’ dime (so, you know… sorry about that).

Speaking of coat-tail riding, here’s Chloe Unleashed (I mean really. You think she’da seen it coming). Will the grieving widow show her combat expertise by leaving her highly defendable position and closing for hand-to-hand with her shotgun? Only time will tell.

So, came home to some book orders and some reassurance on the completion of Magellan: Chapter One. Things are good.

post Mosquito Webcomic #39… n’ stuff

Just about done the Edmonton trip, and I’m exceedingly eager to get back and tackle what’s left of Magellan Affair to finally get it up and started. Only one day of fun and a couple more of pain in the ass driving to go. I seem to remember doing the trip in a single day before, but I also seem to remember being really stupid. I’m also ready to get going on the third book (“A Shrewd and Knavish Sprite ”). This time around is going to involve a good deal of research and some hat in hand begging to the Manitoba and Canadian Arts’ Councils. Neither really recognizes self-published authors, but my books and sales smack of enough professionalism to overcome at least that obstacle.

Anyhow, here’s “A Dry Run” with apologies to the folks that have been waiting to see more of Dry… mostly because of what happens to him.

Isn’t that a funny play on words? Aren’t I clever?

Anyway, it’s been far too long since I’ve done anything to promote the books and movie, so I thought I’d fill you in on what I’m up to.

On July 24th I’ll be in Fillion’s home town of Edmonton, AB for a book signing at the South Point Chapters (3227 Calgary Trail NW). Things get started around 4PM, so if you’re in the area, stop on by.

On October 11-12th I’ll be at the Manitoba Comic Con in Winnipeg, MB peddling the books and webcomic, as well as the first chapter or two of The Magellan Affair. Jamie’s not sure if the Browncoat Saloon is gonna run this year, and that would be a downright shame if it didn’t.

I’ll also be presenting at Brandon Teachers’ Association LIFT Conference (whose tagline should totally be “Why go to SAG when you can go to LIFT?”) on November 28th. I’m going to be doing morning and afternoon seminars on Challenging Your Students’ Creative Potential, discussing ways to promote students’ creative skills and the various contests and awards available to them.

Howdy All.

It occurs to me that some folks don’t know about the young adult modern fantasy books I’ve written.   They’re pretty damn funny little yarns that I’m awful proud of, and once I get Magellan done, I’ll get to writing more. There’s pics of the books up there in the banner, but you can check out summaries, sample chapters, images and even video trailers for them HERE . They’re available at McNally Robinson and a good handful of Chapters stores across Canada, or there’s an Amazon link for them off the site.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go take a shower.

Welcome to the Emerald City Storytellers Blog, where the laws of physics and grammar seemingly cease to apply, and you’ll find downright riveting information on such topics as…

…the humorous young adult fantasy books by Nathan Town (that’s me), Ned Stapleton and the Wrath of the Death Gods and The Oldest Game of All (see the ‘Books’ link over on the right), including signings, appearances, and what not…

…the online serialized retro sci-fi noir, The Magellan Affair (that’s the ‘Movies’ link over there), with updates, production notes, and indie movie making tips. The first chapter is so very close…

…the new Mosquito webcomic (you’ll never guess which link on the right this one is) based on our Firefly/Serenity fanfilm (back before the world at large destroyed my faith in humanity by deciding that Big Momma’s House was more deserving of a sequel)…

…other unrelated nonsense that you usually find on these things, like how cute my cat is…

…if I thought you’d care…

…or I had a cat…
